Lodging, travel, and meals in Mexico is $225.
Airfare and travel has not been arranged. Last year it was $564 for both. We hope we can negotiate a good fare this year. We'll let you know.

2006 COSTS UPDATED
Our airfare is $603, Insurance $57, Food, Lodging, and Travel in Mexico $225. Add it up, and you'll get $885. That's less than 2005, but watch out for increases in airport taxes and fuel surcharges. Keep your fingers crossed: The airfare MAY increase between now and the time we pay for the ticket, and this charge COULD be passed along to us.

GENERAL INFORMATION

GENERAL INFORMATION
We are doing two rural medical clinics at the same time in Tatoxcac and Ixtepec, two villages in the Northern Sierra Madre Mountains of the State of Puebla.

PERSONNEL NEEDED: Physicians (Family Practice, Internal Medicine, Surgeon, Pediatrician, OB-GYN, and Anesthesiologist), Dentist, Dental Hygienist, Nurses (several -- including scrub nurses), Pharmacists, Translators, and 4 or 5 non-medical persons for repair, etc. Final team selection will depend, of course, on having a well-rounded, task-related balance.

PURPOSE OF THE MISSION: We work as a witness to our love for Christ; we have fellowship with our Mexican friends; and we learn about being a Christian in the third world.

WHAT TO BRING: Passport (or photo ID and birth certificate), flashlight, sleeping bag, hand instruments, rubber gloves, medicines, BP cuffs, stethoscope, roll of toilet paper, sense of humor. Maybe pillow, ear plugs, snack bars, Swiss army knife.

LIVING ARRANGEMENTS: This is a remote area with few comforts. It is like camping. You will need to bring a sleeping bag, and possibly a compact air mattress. There is a shower and bathroom at the clinic. Unfortunately, hot water is in short supply. Our accommodations, however crude, will be better than the homes of the local folk, many of whom live in adobe huts with dirt floors. Mosquitoes are not a problem in the highlands of Mexico (7,000 feet).

WEATHER AND CLOTHING: May there is like May here --anywhere from frost to 80 degrees. Jeans, sneakers, sweater, rain gear, jacket. Image: "camping" in village; "casual" in Puebla. Wear scrubs or lab coat when "on duty.” Shorts are seldom worn in Mexico and should be conservative. Women do wear slacks in Mexico. No bare midriffs or tank tops.

SHOTS: Vaccinations are not required for entering Mexico; however, tetanus booster, hepatitis, typhoid, or other shots will be explained at team meetings.

EXPECTATIONS OF THE MEXICAN METHODISTS: While in the village, do not offend our Mexican Methodist colleagues with smoking, drinking, or card playing. On the other hand, they will expect our team members to join in church services, singing, and social events with them.

This "blog" is a way for old and new team members to make comments about the mission. Our page is interactive - well, that is what a "blog" is by definition. You can add your own personal comments or suggestions to our information using the "reply to this" or "post a new comment" button on the page. Some of you may have ideas about things to bring, or maybe a recommendation of something others would like to do in Puebla. The possibilities are endless. Your ideas are appreciated.

Do you want to try to link to the Mission movie from the '99 trip? It's a huge file, but we might be able to stream it.
